I TRI because I CAN…

What do you do, just because you can? Me? I do triathlons. Not because I am fast. And not because I am particularly athletic. But because I can. And I hope that I can for a very long time.

Kulia i ka nu’u!

Always reach for the summit.  A Hawaiian olelo chosen for me by a friend. One of my mantras.

For me, life means never accepting a limitation.  Rather, life is about pushing the boundaries.  By pushing the boundaries we can understand our limits.  And then we can redefine the very same.  Life is about beating our limitations, and surprising ourselves with our spirit and tenacity in the process.  Life means always reaching for the summit.

In 2004 I received a diagnosis of CMT - a progressive degenerative nerve disease.  In 2009 I decided that I needed to change my point of view about living with CMT.  I decided to see just how strong, fit and able I could become. So that if, someday, I were to decline, I would do so from a position of strength. And with a lifetime of experiences behind me.

On this site you can read about how I manage my health and well being, and about my approach to fitness and healthy living.  You can support the efforts to find a cure for CMT.  You can read about others I have met along my journey who have inspired me.  And you can follow my progress as I seek to constantly redefine - and beat - my own limitations.
